Universal Lamp Co.’s Auto-Lite Carbide Lamp for Coal Miners

An old brass coal miner’s lamp in good condition. Calcium carbide was placed in the lower chamber and water in the upper. A controlled drip of water produced acetylene gas that provided light without the need for electricity.

Made by the Universal Lamp Company in Springfield Ill.

Measures 4” tall, 2” wide and 3 3/4” deep.
